New Transport Infrastructure Major Projects in Development for 2026–2029

Tram: Airport — Canggu

The flagship new project is a battery-powered electric tram line connecting Ngurah Rai International Airport with Canggu. The construction agreement was signed on September 1, 2026.

The project covers a route of approximately 12 km. The estimated journey time is around 30 minutes, with a 10-minute service frequency and a potential capacity of up to 60,000 passengers per day. Currently, approximately 150,000 people and 80,000 vehicles travel this corridor daily.

Implementation is divided into several phases. Technical studies, approvals, and community consultations begin in September 2026. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for March 2027. The first section is set to open in 2028, with the full line to Canggu planned for completion by 2029.

The areas set to benefit most from the project are Canggu, Seminyak, Legian, and the territories along the new transport corridor.

Jimbaran: A New Interchange

Another key infrastructure development is a transport interchange in Jimbaran, with construction scheduled for 2026–2027.

The project aims to relieve one of the most congested stretches in the south of the island and improve connectivity between Jimbaran, the airport, Nusa Dua, and other areas of Badung.

For Jimbaran, this is particularly significant: the community sits close to the airport and major resort zones, meaning improved road access could strengthen its appeal for living and investment.

The Road North

Infrastructure plans extend beyond the traditionally tourist-oriented south. In 2026–2027, construction will continue on the Singaraja–Mengwitani road, including sections 11 and 12.

Looking further ahead to 2030, authorities plan to develop transport links between different parts of the island. One of the goals is to create new economic centres in the north, east, west, and central Bali.

This could gradually increase interest in areas that currently hold untapped investment potential.

Sea Routes Over Traffic

Water transport is set to provide an additional solution. Authorities are exploring a sea route between the airport, Nusa Dua, and Canggu as an alternative to road travel.

In parallel, the ports of Celukan Bawang, Padangbai, Amed, and Gunaksa are being developed. Their modernisation is intended to improve passenger and cargo connectivity and link different parts of the island.

What This Means for Real Estate

Bali is gradually moving away from a model where proximity to the beach was the primary advantage. The development of transport infrastructure will make it possible to reach any part of the island quickly and open up property in more remote areas to serious consideration.

If the stated timelines hold, the island will begin transitioning to a new transport system as early as 2027, with the airport–Canggu tram corridor delivering its first results in 2028–2029.

For the property market, this is an important signal: new roads, public transport, and ports can make individual districts more convenient for living, renting, and doing business — and in doing so, create new growth points for land and property values.
