The opening of the BIH International Hospital in Sanur

On 25 June 2025, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the new BIH International Hospital in Sanur, the first step towards transforming Bali into a medical tourism hub.
What is BIH?
It is a state-of-the-art medical complex with world-class equipment (PET scanner, LINAC, 3TL MRI) and international partners in cardiology (Japan), oncology (USA, Australia), diagnostics (South East Asia) and co-operation with Singapore.
Over $1bn has been invested in the hospital, with the aim of reducing medical outflow (Indonesians spend $11.5bn annually on overseas treatment) and competing in medical tourism with global leaders.
Foreign doctors - for the first time in Indonesian history
A new law has authorised the recruitment of international specialists. There are already 3 oncologists from Singapore and a doctor from Germany. This opens the way for credentialed medical professionals.
