Digital Driver’s Licenses

Indonesia has officially introduced SIM Digital - a digital version of driver’s licenses that will operate through the Digital Korlantas app. The new system will allow drivers to stop carrying plastic documents at all times and use their licenses directly from their smartphones.

One of the key features of the technology is its advanced security system. A dynamic QR code is used to verify authenticity, automatically refreshing every 10 seconds. This makes it impossible to simply take a screenshot and pass it to another person for use.

Representatives of the Indonesian police also stated that the digital system has already been certified by the national cybersecurity agency, confirming a high level of user data protection.

The launch of SIM Digital is part of the country’s broader digitalization of government services. Authorities expect the new system to make document usage more convenient, modern, and secure for all drivers.
