Bali’s Maritime Growth

Bali’s Maritime Growth

Bali is steadily strengthening its position in maritime infrastructure, becoming an increasingly important element of regional and global logistics. Indonesia ranks first in the world by number of commercial vessels, and with around 80% of global trade carried by sea, port development is a key driver of economic growth.

Against this backdrop, the Port of Benoa is undergoing significant development, gradually transforming into a major transport and tourism hub. Cruise traffic is increasing, modern yachting infrastructure is being established, and the port is being equipped to accommodate up to three cruise liners simultaneously, with a total capacity of up to 9,000 passengers.

By 2026, the number of ship calls is expected to reach 61–73 annually, while passenger traffic is projected to grow from 78,000 to 140,000. At the same time, a marina with capacity for up to 275 yachts is being developed, creating new opportunities for premium tourism and maritime leisure.

These developments indicate sustained growth in the region’s tourism appeal, expansion of port infrastructure, and a strengthening of Bali’s position as a key maritime destination in Asia. In the long term, this is also expected to drive demand for coastal locations and stimulate related sectors of the economy.
