Waste-to-Energy

President Prabowo Subianto announced the start of an ambitious environmental project that will bring modern waste-processing and energy-generation facilities to 34 cities across the country. Key locations include Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bali.
The new facilities will serve two purposes at once: reducing the pressure on overloaded landfills and supplying cities with electricity. Construction is expected to be completed within the next two years, making the initiative one of the fastest environmental infrastructure rollouts in the country.
Special attention is being given to the massive Bantargebang Landfill landfill, where more than 55 million tons of waste have already accumulated. The site is set to become a key element of the national program aimed at reducing waste and improving environmental conditions.
According to the president, the initiative is fully funded and is being viewed as a strategic step toward improving quality of life, boosting tourism, and protecting the environment in Indonesia.
