Bali is becoming greener

A new phase of greening has begun at the Mangrove Arboretum Park in the Tahura Ngurah Rai Natural Forest. Indonesian Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni launched the planting of 50,000 mangrove seedlings to cover another 5 hectares of land.

Indonesia is the world leader in mangrove forest area with 3.5 million hectares (30% of the world's total).

  • Mangrove forests prevent erosion, improve biodiversity and absorb carbon.
  • The transition from cutting to planting trees opens up new economic opportunities through carbon credit trading.
  • This year, Indonesia will plant 1,500 hectares of mangroves across the country.
  • Mangrove Arboretum Park has already covered 3 hectares, and the new phase will bring the total area to 15 hectares.
