Indonesia officially bans open dumps

Open dumping, or burying waste in the open, will be completely stopped in Indonesia from April 11. This was announced by Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofik at a meeting in Denpasar.
President Prabowo has given permission to close 343 landfills across the country. The first 37 will be closed in the next 6 months.
Bali is a priority, as it generates more than 3,000 tons of waste daily.
"We are using all our resources to stop open dumping. This is a step towards a sustainable future," the minister noted.
The goal is 100% recycling and proper waste management by 2029. So far, the country has only achieved 39% of the planned goal.
