Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) is one of the main attractions of Bali, which amazes with its scale.
121 meters high and 66 meters wide - this statue is taller than the famous Statue of Liberty in New York!
Interesting facts about GWK:
- 28 years of construction - the idea of the sculptor I Nyoman Nuarta was approved back in 1990, but due to the crisis, the project was frozen and completed only in 2018.
- 1,000 workers worked on the creation of a giant statue.
- Built on the site of an old quarry - limestone was once mined here. Now it is a cultural center with an area of 250 hectares.
- Withstands hurricanes - the structure is able to withstand gusts of wind up to 2.5 pascals.
- Weighs 4,000 tons – and is visible from 20 km away, even from Kuta and Nusa Dua.
Today, GWK is not just a monument, but a venue for concerts, festivals and cultural events.
