Will there be less waste?
The Indonesian Ministry of Environment has prohibited tourist businesses in Bali, such as hotels, restaurants, and cafes, from sending their waste to local landfills. This measure aims to reduce the amount of waste going to the overloaded landfills, especially the largest landfill, Suung, which has already reached its limit.
Now, hotels and restaurants will be required to implement recycling and composting systems and to reduce the use of inorganic materials. Nornah Tachar, the waste management director, emphasized that businesses must take responsibility for recycling and minimizing waste. It is expected that this will encourage the tourism sector to adopt sustainable solutions.
